I Want: Michael Kors’ Floral Mary Janes

First of all, I loved, loved, loved, Michael Kor’s Pre-Fall 2016 collection. I am so stunned and surprised by some of the elements he incorporated into the current trends, that my mindset for the couture shows is completely blown. I’m not a pink girl, but I NEED that pink and white mink coat. What I couldn’t get over is the floral Mary Jane’s in black and white, and black and army green. I’ll take them both.

Kors who rejects the label “Pre-Fall” and prefers to use “Transeasonal” because it’s less limiting, says he approaches design this way: “She’s got to fall in love.” Mission accomplished.

I’ll be honest, 2015 was rough, but I’ve had tougher. It was also exciting, enlightening and showed me that I am resilient, gullible, and an optimistic pessimist. I’ve learned that my refusal to give up is not always a good thing, but my stubbornness isn’t something I’m willing to change. Armed with more wisdom, I’m looking forward; 2015 is over and 2016 is just beginning.

Now is the time when we typically take stock of what we did the previous year and what we would like to do in the present one. Regardless of whether we habitually make resolutions we most likely won’t keep, there is a collective reset, an ‘after a rainstorm’ freshness in the air. I tend to clean house metaphorically. I get rid of people who are toxic and I look at what I can do to improve my physical and mental health.

I’m going to really focus on pinpointing my personal style which means putting more energy into myself, better known as being selfish. I’m a nurturer by nature, so I tend to take care of others needs before my own and I’m not alone in that. If I were one to make resolutions, this a resolution I would always break. I think most of us try to revamp or refresh our look. Unfortunately, coming right off of Christmas, trying to decide which trends I want to embrace or create contrast with my yearly thought to be fiscally responsible, another resolution that wouldn’t stick.

Unretouched photo of me just after finishing a four-day braiding project wearing body jewelry.

I  found myself on Born Pretty Store when I was researching a story on ‘glitter roots‘ and spent way too much time in their jewelry department. I usually purchase nail art supplies here, but as a person who recently got into body jewelry, I was hooked on their selection. If you are not familiar, get familiar. Beauty and fashion enthusiasts rave about Born Pretty Store for a reason. They are on top of the current beauty and fashion trends: matte lipsticks, glitter for nails and hair, club clothes, and body jewelry, and the quality is great for how inexpensive it is. Their inventory of beauty and styling tools is pretty impressive as well.

As a thank you to my followers, I have a 10% off coupon for non-discounted items. Just use DFBT10 when checking out and know that you have exercised fiscal responsibility on top of welcoming the new year with a new you.

The Top 5 Shoe Trends of 2015

The Top 5 Shoe Trends of 2015

It has been a good long while since I have posted and I have really missed writing for pleasure versus writing to make a living. A great deal has happened, in my life and career wise and thankfully, I have managed to maintain good health. I am writing for several venues and I am extremely excited about my present opportunities. For instance, I will be covering Denver Fashion Week (DFW) and I can’t wait to see how far this event has come. Look for more posts about DFW, as well as some live tweeting from the shows. In the meantime let’s look at the most popular shoe styles of 2015. Did your favorite shoe style make the cut?

▶ Jean Paul Gaultier Couture Spring/Summer 2014 ft. Dita Von Teese – FashionTV

Paris Couture Fashion Week has been well underway for a few days, and I went completely against my normal urge to post Chanel and went straight to what really played with my emotions, the Jean Paul Gaultier runway show featuring Dita Von Tesse. Why? Anyone that gorgeous that sees past the distraction that is Marilyn Manson and finds his soul is truly fascinating.

Have fun with this fun and flirty collection and tell me what you think of the theme.

If you aren’t familiar with FashionTV, this is a good time to check out the present and upcoming runway shows that us mere mortals don’t have access to. There is live streaming, interviews, and anything that is remotely attached to the fashion world. For me, couture is the most fun because it is so creative and over-the-top, and the challenge of dialing it back to reinvent the looks for the real world is like a roller coaster thrill. I really marvel at those who can execute creativity and talent so flawlessly. Sigh… I would wear many of these looks just the way they are with absolutely nowhere to go.

I Want: Christopher Kane’s Abstract Velvet and Silk Paneled Skirt

I haven’t posted an “I Want” post in a while because I haven’t seen anything that gave me chills. That was until I saw Christopher Kane’s velvet paneled skirt.

20131113-150240.jpg

As a person who loves black, this skirt is perfect for breaking it up. The print is abstract and so is the hemline although other’s might consider it to be asymmetrical. It is also made with sheer silk-voile with a silk-voile lining that is also sheer.

You might want to wear a slip if you don’t want to show your lady-bits. If you are an exhibitionist, this skirt is for you.

This skirt is as versatile as they come. It can be worn with a t-shirt, a pull-over, or a sheer blouse. I would wear this with ankle boots, but I can also see a nice pair of stilettos. It is pricy at $2,335 so as much as I love Mr. Kane, I will be looking for an alternative. So, how would you style Christopher Kane’s velvet trimmed silk-voile skirt?

Chic Anarchist’s Biker Jackets

I spent the majority of my Sunday having a Sons of Anarchy season five marathon. I cannot quit Charlie Hunnam, I am not going to lie by saying I can and even though I told my daughter I could quit Sons of Anarchy anytime, and she laughed in my face, I am completely addicted. Charlie is more than a pretty face, he is a great actor so much so that when I found out he was British, I chocked on my Snapple.

20131029-140423.jpg

He is famous for playing Jax on SOA but became even more famous by turning down the lead character as Christian Grey for the 50 Shades of Grey movie. Good call Charlie and your publicist. Your hotness has been introduced to the masses without having to play that career ending/embarrassing role.

So as an homage to SOA and Charlie Hunnam, I went Polyvoring to find these awesome biker jackets. Check it out.

Is this cool or what? I am all over the iridescent trend and Cynthia Rowley‘s seamed waist dress is other-worldly. I just purchased Essie’s “For The Twill of It” from Amazon and that nail polish would go perfectly with this dress.

Gold and/or silver accessories and minimal makeup makes the look a stunner. What do you think?

What Did I Miss?

erin-wasson-vmas

Well, I am back from a little hiatus. I’d like to  call it a vacation, but really it was just a recovery from wrist surgery. Treacherous. I tried to create posts on my iPod Touch and thought voice recognition (Dragon app. is fabulous), would suffice and while that was fun, it wasn’t as productive as I would have liked. All of that frustration got my already ADD brain working overtime and obsessing over what I was missing out on. What I  can say is that I feel mentally refreshed. Sometimes you have to get input, especially when you spend most of your time producing output, and I have a hard time relaxing, even in vacation mode.

All kinds of things happened while I was away. Timothy finally got booted on Project Runway,  Sandro lost his mind and quit the show, and it became obvious that Sue Waller couldn’t handle modern-day sewing technique. Hell, she couldn’t even thread a basic Brother sewing machine, much less know how to sew with it.  Justin LeBlanc was voted off, something no one took very well, including Tim Gunn who used his one and only save to keep Justin in the game. I was one of the teary-eyed, and I was elated by Tim’s save. I want to see more from this designer who uses his architecture background to create stunning clothing.

Jane Cosmetics, an iconic makeup brand from the 90s is making a comeback after coming out of bankruptcy. As of August 18, Jane Cosmetics is available online and at Ulta.

How gorgeous was Selena Gomez in Atelier Versace, and Ciara in Givenchy? Look for Ciara on papermag.com as she is September’s cover girl. An honorable mention goes to Erin Wasson for her sheer Alexander Vauthier dress. I loved what she wore under it. If only…

To show how much in work mode I was not, I bought this really cool ruler while shopping for office supplies yesterday and then I saw it on a local daytime show but it was advertised as a bracelet. I found the ruler and sure enough it is called a Slap Ruler, a bracelet and ruler all in one. Leave it to me to lock onto a ruler disguised as a bracelet, a bracelet for children no less.

Beautylish is my makeup haven. I just love all of the makeup tips from people in the trenches. This sight is so inspirational for anyone who absolutely loves expressing themselves through their appearance. I have never done a nude lip primarily because I can’t get the shade right but after watching this nude lip tutorial by Wayne G., I see nude lips in my future. You can follow Wayne on YouTube under gosssmakeupartist.  An added bonus is if you watch the video on YouTube, an extensive list of nude lip liners and colors is included in the about section and like me, he is a huge fan of MAC cosmetics.

Finally, StylEnigma is evolving. There will be more posts, a different format, an event calendar, and more cool features. I am so excited. See, this is why I can’t relax.
