Nails Inc. Paint Can – Wow or Waste?

Nails Inc. Paint Can nail polish in Hoxton Market.

One of my favorite nail brands, Nails Inc., has come up with yet another beauty innovation – spray on nail polish. This cutting edge brand has created Paint Can and promises that it is the fastest manicure around boasting a 20-second dry time. It’s awfully cute in a graffiti artist kind of way. It is called Nails Inc. Paint Can it comes in two colors, Shoreditch Lane (silver) and Hoxton Market (pink) and with such adorably British names, it’s important to note that this product is not yet available for sale in the US (March 2016) and it has sold out in the UK. At this point, only US beauty insiders (editors) have been able to test the product. Allure’s Jenna Rosenstein was lucky enough to get a hold of the product and her review includes an informative tutorial as well as tips on how to use the product.

Nails Inc. has already started a waitlist for the US launch date and without trying the product my feeling is; at $17 a pop, it’s expensive and wasteful. The online tutorials show more product on the hands and surrounding areas than on the nails and the 20-second drying time doesn’t include the drying time for the top and base coats. Neither color, in my opinion, is flattering to my skin tone, or even in colors that I would wear independently. Then there is the issue of the product being inhaled and washed down the sink. However, I can see its use and entertainment value for nail art. (I am already visualizing how this can be utilized).  So unless I find myself with a product sample – and I won’t –  I will just have to wait until March like everybody else to see if this is indeed an innovation or a waste of money.

Is this cool or what? I am all over the iridescent trend and Cynthia Rowley‘s seamed waist dress is other-worldly. I just purchased Essie’s “For The Twill of It” from Amazon and that nail polish would go perfectly with this dress.

Gold and/or silver accessories and minimal makeup makes the look a stunner. What do you think?

OPI Designer Series Introduces Raw Granite Matte Glitter Polish

I am a major nail art fiend, and I absolutely love fingernail polish. There was a time when I was completely against glitter polishes because I thought they were gaudy and I wasn’t crazy about matte finishes either. I have seen beautiful nail art that incorporates matte and glitter, and I am hooked. If I wasn’t already hooked, I would have been after seeing OPI’s Designer Series Raw Granite nail lacquers. The combination of a matte finish that sparkles is absolutely gorgeous.

The new polishes are part of OPI’s  designer series and contain diamond dust. They are following the footsteps of Azature, a polish and luxury jewelry brand I am obsessed with owning and have written several posts where I mention Black Diamond nail lacquer, a glistening polish infused with black diamonds. Azature is most famous for making a $250,000 bottle of nail polish, the most expensive bottle of nail polish to date. From what I can tell, the difference between the Raw Granite polishes and Azature is the Granite Series is earthy and its sheen is subtle, while Azature is glamorous and glitzy.

The diamond dust polish comes in pewter and lapis and is meant to be worn without a topcoat which will result in a satin like finish that is satiny with dimension. While it may look like it would have a rough texture, it goes on smoothly and stays that way. I rock deep blue on my nails constantly, so I am extremely excited about this new addition to the Designer Series. I love how the silver hexagon glitter in the pewter polish gives Emily, a.k.a. the Lacquerologist’s nails added oomph.  These polishes can go elegant or edgy and the colors deepen when given a topcoat.

I Want: M.A.C. Temperature Rising Nail Lacquer in Tropical

M.A.C. Temperature Rising Nail Lacquer

When I spotted MAC’s Tropical nail polish, I came to a screeching halt. I was never a fan of glitter until about six months ago when I spotted some amazing nail art with glitter polishes. Since then, I have added Milani Ruby Jewels and Sally Hansen Wedding Crasher to my polish repertoire, and it looks like Tropical will join the family.

Tropical is part of the Temperature Rising Collection which launched in May. I think the combination of bronze glitter, gold, and copper is perfect for the summer months and suits any skin tone. One coat will produce a sheer coating with subtle shimmer, while two coats will provide more oomph. There is another polish in the collection, Scorching Haute, which is a magenta glitter lacquer with no color base. The polishes in the Temperature Rising collection are $18 each.

Azature’s Black Diamond Collection Are Your Nail’s Best Friend

Azature Diamond Collection

I was a fan of Azature Pogosian’s black diamond jewelry long before Kelly Osborne wore his super-expensive nail polish to the 2012 Emmy’s and then had to defend wearing the ultra expensive manicure to her haters, as if they wouldn’t wear it if they had the chance. That lone bottle of black diamond nail polish is $250,000 and on display at Selfridges still waiting on a buyer. I am so excited that he decided to take away a few zeros and bring black diamond luxury to the masses with the “Black Diamond Collection” of nail polishes.

Azature is a Los Angeles luxury jewelry designer that specializes in black diamonds and the handsome provacateur has boutiques scattered around the U.S., Paris, London,Riyadh, and Moscow. The Kelly Osbourne stunt was genius really, and a great way to transition further into the beauty and fashion niche really especially since Azature studied fashion at Parsons School of Design. What better way to introduce yourself to consumers who have never heard of you then making sure they hear of you?

I mentioned this collection last month, and I am going to get my hands on the blue, black, green, and red shades from the Black Diamond Collection. I have paid more (Chanel had this iridescent blue shade about 10 years ago that was around $30, and I bought two)  for nail polish, so why not? At $25 a bottle I think it will make one hell of a manicure, and a great excuse to get out of housework. If you want a reason to be a diva, pick up a bottle or two at Selfridges, Harvey Nichols Saudi Arabia, Ron Robinson, Ron Herman Japan and Kitson.

Hermés $91,500 Crocodile Shirt Found Slumming in New York City

We all know that Hermés is the crème de la crème of luxury fashion brands, so we shouldn’t be surprised that a $91,500 T-shirt exists. Should we?  The black crew-neck T-shirt was discovered by a blogger at The Awl, while browsing at the Hermés boutique on Madison Avenue. According to The Awl, “Literally, the entire shirt is just luxurious, beautifully sewn swaths of crocodile“, and it was hanging inconspicuously on a shelf, slumming with the less expensive clothing. (The poor shirt probably doesn’t have a choice. How many 100k T- shirts could there be?)  Unfortunately, the blogger couldn’t take a picture of the shirt, but managed to capture  a picture of the price tag. The taxes on that beauty is roughly $8,000, and I think for that kind of money, that shirt should be your personal stylist and dress you in the morning.

Photo: Courtesy of The Awl

The shirt showed in Paris last year for Hermés 2012 Men’s Spring collection, and I keep wondering “Where do you wear a crocodile shirt?” It’s not a breathable fabric, and it is probably heavy, so showing it off at the club is out. Really, everything is out because sweating will ruin it. Where these special crocodiles? Because no matter how beautifully  the crocodile is sewn, $91,500 is ridiculous. Oh, and you know PETA is livid over the demise of the poor crocodiles that lost their lives to outrageously priced fashion.

Photo: Courtesy of JUST ONE EYE

Hermés is not the only fashion label to slap a ridiculous price on an item. The Row, the Olsen Twins upscale clothing line, collaborated with artist Damien Hirst and JUST ONE EYE, and created 12 limited edition crocodile backpacks for $55,000. The backpacks were sprinkled with prescription pills or dots and sold out in no time.  If you missed out, you can still purchase the unadorned, alligator version for $34,000.

Believe it or not, the  Hermés crocodile shirt is not the most expensive shirt in the world. Datta Phuge, an Indian millionaire, nicknamed the “Gold Man of Primpi”  has a 22-carat shirt that cost $235,000. Phuge commissioned Ranka Jewelers to make the shirt as an investment to leave to his loved ones when he dies.

You wouldn’t expect a bottle of fingernail polish to cost more than Phuge’s gold shirt, but Azature’s Black Diamond nail polish contains 267-carats of real black diamonds, and will only set you back a measly $250,000. This couture nail lacquer is definitely for the one percent, like Kelly Osbourne, who flaunted her expensive Azature manicure at the 2012 Emmys.

101 Beauty Tips Every Girl Should Know – StumbleUpon

Who doesn’t need beauty tips? A fool doesn’t need beauty tips, that’s who. When I say “beauty” I don’t necessarily mean makeup; it can be about how to improve skin texture and tone, or beauty alternatives found in the refrigerator.

My favorites:

91. “Balance out your shimmer. If you’re doing a shimmery eye, do matte lips”- Raychel Wade, founder of Cheek to Chic and La Prairie’s colour ambassador

79. During summer, “Its easy to forget that feet can get sunburned. Be sure to apply sunscreen with a minimum SPF of 50 when barefoot”- Dr. Leslie Campbell, DPM.

55. If you don’t have nail polish remover, apply clear nail polish over and then wipe off. It will remove old polish.

44.”You should always go to a hair-removal specialist, where waxing, laser etc. is their main business – don’t go to a nail salon for a wax”- Cindy Barshop, Completely Bare and Bravo’s RHONYC.

35.There are always cheap, natural and effective homemade beauty recipes.

23.”Don’t be too serious: It’s only Makeup! “- Francois NARS insists you play around with new colors.

18. If you choose to use false eyelashes, remember to use the dark glue as it will blend in with the lashes.

How to Make Nail Art Last Longer

3D nail art

I don’t know about you, but there is nothing more frustrating than getting a cute manicure and having it chip before you can you can enjoy it. It is even more frustrating when you are doing your own do-it-yourself nail art and it doesn’t last long enough to show off. It’s not a secret that nail art is the biggest trend since ombré colored hair. It’s an accessory, and an alternate way to update an outfit or give it a little oomph. Here are some great tips to give your manicure a little longevity.

How to Make Nail Art Last Longer.

Manicure-tools CND stickey base Seche Vite Top Coat

A great place to shop for nail art is Sephora. They have the newest brands, colors, and nail kits. Many of their nail art kits have tutorials, and I have found brands I have never heard of, or only saw in the U.K. Sephora is product junkie heaven. (Hi, my name is Lynnette and I am a product-aholic. Hi Lynnette!) It’s nice to go there online, or in person and window shop, or try to window shop. I am not always successful; like I said, product junkie.
