News From The Beautiverse

Dyed armpits with embellishments and extensions. Alright then…

Are you using frizzy hair as an excuse not to go to the gym? It seems that Botox might end that excuse. I was watching Good Morning America this morning and there was a settlement about a new procedure called Blowtox that helps you fight fitness by preventing perspiration. A dermatologist injects Botox into the scalp and forehead which will lessen perspiration which will of course, prevent frizziness and prolong that expensive blowout. I am one of those people who skip the gym if I have just gotten my hair blown out. Bikram Yoga is hell on hair. This procedure is also very pricey at $500 to $700, it has to be repeated every 3 to 6 months. Ah, the price of vanity.

When I think of underarm hair I think “EW!”, and reach for the razor. A Seattle hairdresser by the name of Roxy Hunt has a different take on the subject. What started out as a joke, dying a co-worker’s armpit hair the same shade of blue as the hair on her head, has turned into an anthem for female empowerment. Hunt’s “Free Your Pits Manifesto” encourages women not to judge but to encourage each others choices. This has spawned armpit extensions and embellishments. If you’re tired of shaving your armpits but have no problems going to the trouble of dying it, this is the trend for you.

I don’t think we can talk about the new year without mentioning resolutions. I just started following the blog undersea M.D., when I came across an article that speaks to the most popular new years resolution, to get in shape mentally and physically. If this is something you have resolved to do, try the Tone It Up 6-week challenge. When you sign up you’ll receive a Welcome Pack that includes a Great Full Body Toning Routine, Tone It Up Approved recipes and more.

Are you looking for a better skin in the new year? I have noticed changes in my skin; suddenly dry and bumpy in texture. I am not sure if it is because of age or a change in skin care products. I’ve changed my regimen, but I’m not seeing the results I want. Perhaps the answer is as simple as my digestive system according to Harper’s Bazaar. Sensitivity to certain foods and beverages can explain How Your Diet Shows Up On Your Face without even recognizing it as a sensitivity.  This article states that dairy, wine, and gluten can create hormonal imbalances in the gut that manifest in the form of dark circles, dehydration, puffiness, and other maladies. It would save me a lot of money if the answer is what I am ingesting and not in a jar.

That’s it for the trial run and if you have any questions or comments about the stories that I highlighted, please share them in the comment section or email me.
