I created StylEnigma in 2014 to celebrate the beauty of individuality and creative personal expression/presentation. I love the idea of being a canvas and expressing myself by transforming into the embodiment of my mood - to the mood I want to be in. I am fascinated by different standards of beauty and style and fashion incorporates instinctively incorporates both. I use writing as a form of continued education.
I've never been into cliques or trends because I've always believed that personal style supersedes trends, I've never been a follower or stressed about being liked, and what I'm thinking usually escapes my lips before I can stop it.
I love dark colors like black and midnight blue. I own so much black clothing it looks like I'm in a perpetual state of mourning - and I probably am. I love nail art. In fact, I started this blog because of a Nailasaurus nail art post, and before that, I owned a nail and skincare salon, so there will be a LOT of nail art. As a lupus patient who has been riding this global crisis solo, I have acquired a vicious plant habit and currently have approximately 95, including propagations.
I frequently critique nonsense, ponder the human condition, dodge the bullets and jump over the obstacles placed before me all while learning how to make ADHD work for me because at the moment, it isn't. I am also learning how to create alternative forms of content and maintain my sanity because life frequently tests it.
This will be fun. Let's do this!
I don’t know about you, but there is nothing more frustrating than getting a cute manicure and having it chip before you can you can enjoy it. It is even more frustrating when you are doing your own do-it-yourself nail art and it doesn’t last long enough to show off. It’s not a secret that nail art is the biggest trend since ombré colored hair. It’s an accessory, and an alternate way to update an outfit or give it a little oomph. Here are some great tips to give your manicure a little longevity.
A great place to shop for nail art is Sephora. They have the newest brands, colors, and nail kits. Many of their nail art kits have tutorials, and I have found brands I have never heard of, or only saw in the U.K. Sephora is product junkie heaven. (Hi, my name is Lynnette and I am a product-aholic. Hi Lynnette!) It’s nice to go there online, or in person and window shop, or try to window shop. I am not always successful; like I said, product junkie.
These revamped cat-eye shades are adorable. I’m not sure I can pull it off but I would certainly take a stab at it.
Spring is just around the corner which means it’s time to take a serious look at what will be protecting our eyes from the sun’s welcome but harmful rays. I love sunglasses; they are the epitome of cool and I wear them all year-long. There are actually people walking among us that believe sunglasses should only be worn during warmer months. I refuse to acknowledge their existence. Who can deny that such a functional accessory is an absolute necessity?
Do any of these sunglasses expected to make an impact this spring move you?
I probably need a beauty closet because I have lots of beauty drawers, cases, and boxes. Anyone who is a DIY aficionado will appreciate these organizational projects made from items already available in your home.
My Saturday mornings start with Project Runway or America’s Next Top Model. I hear that ANTM will have male models and I can’t see that being the same (not that I don’t love the boys) so I might have to check out for the next cycle. I find Project Runway to be inspirational and I am rooting for Uli or Emilio to win Project Runway All Stars 2. I would have had a serious fit if Mondo didn’t win the first season of All Stars and I know I’m not alone. He was robbed in season 8. ROBBED!!
I have recently become obsessed with nail art which is what provoked me to start a Pinterest account. I found so many designs I liked that it was the only way to keep track. Nail art is the biggest trend of 2012; I think that’s indisputable, with sheer clothing coming in second. With nail art, the rules are there are no rules; anything goes. Even those who consider themselves to be conservative are straying away from traditional colors and opting for striking visuals with bright colors, textures, and lavish embellishments. I remember when nail art was considered ghetto, but let’s not get me started on that.
Celebrities like Rhianna and Lady Gaga are showcasing pointy nails or “stiletto nails” so of course, the look is very popular, but I just can’t get on board. the reality that these nails could do double-duty as a weapon and a fashion accessory is not lost on me. And as beautiful as some designs are and as feisty as I am, no one is worth going to jail over.
That was until I saw these:
I know… and you should see the workmanship that Greg Salo put into creating these masterpieces. I typically wear short nails with dark polish, but recently I have started wearing them a bit longer in a square-oval shape in order to try some nail art tutorials. I once had a torrid love affair with long acrylic nails, but they’re just not practical for my lifestyle. The stiletto nails aren’t practical either, but in another life… I’ll just have to admire them from afar. What do you think about the long pointed talons that are trending?
