It seems that popular cosmetics retailer Sephora is stepping further into the luxury collaboration market by joining forces with Elizabeth and James and Marc Jacobs in 2013. With an already powerful arsenal of 250+ brands, the one-stop beauty boutique is credited for making upscale products more accessible to the masses of beauty product connoisseurs. The newest collaborations with these two designer powerhouses are exciting additions to the brand.
This year, the Olsen twins will unveil a yet to be determined fragrance under their Elizabeth and James line in March. Mary-Kate and Ashley have come a long way since their first collaboration with Walmart in 2001.
While Marc Jacobs already has several of his fragrances available at Sephora, he will go all out with an exclusive makeup collection tentatively launching for fall. He discussed the new cosmetic collection with WWD saying, “I see makeup, fragrance — everything, really — as an opportunity. The idea of choosing a color for your lip, or an eyeliner — it’s just such a delight. The ritual of waking up and making those choices is something people really enjoy”.

Collaborations are nothing new to the cosmetics chain. In 2012, Marchesa climbed on board with its luxurious MARCHESA PARFUM D’EXTASE line. Also, The Pantone Color Institute, the global authority on color for the entire design industry, based its exclusive makeup collection on the color of the year, Tangerine Tango. Their 2013 collection will also be based on the color of the year, Emerald Green.
The Karl Lagerfeld Beauty Collection for Sephora launched in November, 2011, in Singapore and Europe. Unfortunately, there are no plans for a U.S. launch which is a travesty. The eye shadow palette alone is a must-have; it is shaped in his image. Lagerfeld clearly has a healthy sense of himself. Hopefully, his cosmetic line will make an appearance in the U.S. soon. Until then, we will look forward to what Marc Jacobs and the Olsen Twins have to offer.
